Our Hawaii Home

We are so excited because we are now finished setting up our little house in Kona, on the Big Island in Hawaii. The house has two bedrooms (one is the guest room for family and friends), two bathrooms, and a den. Now that we are retired we plan to spend two months every winter and two months every summer enjoying our house and guests. We feel so lucky. Please enjoy the photos ...

The front of our house.
Here is the front of our house. Our community is called 'The Pines' and has 94 separate little houses, similar to ours. It is kind of like a condo except there are no common walls - each house is separate but with only one side yard. Our Association takes care of the outside of the house, water, trash and our private street.

Here is the Google Earth view of our house - just down the coast from the city of Kailua-Kona.

Our front entrance
As you come up to the front door you can see all the way through the house and out to the ocean from the side yard (on the left) as well as through the house itself.

The side yard is low maintenance.

Living Room
The main part of the house is one big room - living room, dining room and kitchen.

Dining Area
The dining area is between the kitchen and the living room and has sliding doors leading to the side yard.

Kitchen
The kitchen has great ocean views out through a big porch (called a lanai) that forms the back yard.

Master Bedroom
The master bedroom, with a queen bed, also opens onto the lanai with sliding glass doors and a great ocean view.

Lanai
The 30' by 12' covered lanai runs all along the back of the house. It has great ocean views and is where we eat most of our meals. The city of Kailua-Kona is just up the coast (you can see it behind the fence in this picture).

Morning coffee on the lanai.
Our house is on a hill here so the wild area across from us is at a much lower level. Some day this area may be developed but we will still have a view because of the hill. We get great ocean breezes most of the time and have ceiling fans in each room which keeps us cool. The cruise ship you see comes every Wednesday morning and leaves in the evening - otherwise our ocean view is of small boats and, in the winter, the humpback whales.

Winter Sunset
The winter sunset is right off our lanai - in the summer the sunset moves north to set behind the city of Kailua-Kona. We are looking forward to spending several months here each year, during our retirement, with many hours of meals, reading and gyotaku (fish printing) on this great lanai. We hope many of our family and friends will come and visit.
